May 13, 2024, 12:40 amPresident Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the creation of a “Special Committee on Human Rights Coordination” to carry out Administrative Order No. 22 which aims to enhance the mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines.

Prior to this, the President highlighted the significance of maintaining and intensifying the accomplishments of the United Nations for the Joint Program on Human Rights through the institutionalization of a strong and healthy multi-stakeholder process for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines.

The PHRC Secretariat will serve as the secretariat of the special committee, which is tasked to provide the necessary technical, administrative, and operational support to the committee “in-charge of sustaining initiatives and accomplishments of the UNJP in the areas of law enforcement, criminal justice, and policy-making.”
