President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. lauded the Philippine Women’s National Football team Filipinas for giving the country the “greatest gift” after its historic win during the weekend.
Marcos recognized the sacrifices and dedication of members of team Filipinas after they beat Thailand, 3-0, during the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Football championship held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last Sunday.“I know that you played your hearts out and you did that because you kept remembering that you are representing the Philippines,” Marcos said during his courtesy call with members of team Filipinas in Malacañang last Wednesday.
“So I thank you very much, and I congratulate you for this great achievement and great championship,” he added. During the meeting, Marcos vowed to continue providing government support to national athletes, especially those who are still studying since it allows them to develop discipline as well as learn how to sacrifice, be gracious in victory, and team work.
He claimed support for student athletes dwindled after the Department of Education, Culture and Sports became the Department of Education .“We have to do better in terms of government support when it comes to our athletes,” Marcos said.
