(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
on Monday ordered the Department of Transportation to defer an earlier approved fare increase for train lines Light Rail Transit 1 and LRT-2, taking into account its 'economic impact' on commuters.The fare adjustment for another train line, the MRT-3, was also deferred 'due to infirmities in complying with requirements and procedure.
It was the DoTr's Rail Regulatory Unit that endorsed the fare hike for LRT-1 and LRT-2, with the last approved increase for LRT-2 and MRT-3 being in 2015.On the other hand, the LRT-1, which was privatized in 2015, filed petitions for fare adjustments in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022, all of which were deferred.The Light Rail Manila Corp., which operates LRT-1, is allowed to apply for fare adjustments 'of at least 10.
