Maple Leafs run roughshod over Montreal Canadiens in home finale, Marner nears 100 points:
Coach Sheldon Keefe reunited his No. 1 line of Auston Matthews between Mitch Marner and Michael Bunting, and if we were the ones putting together a Game 1 lineup on a whiteboard, that would be a fine way to go. Calle Jarnkrok has been good with Matthews, but the chemistry between Matthews, Marner and Bunting is undeniable, ditto the impact the trio could have against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Captain John Tavares scored two power-play goals for the Leafs, bringing him to 35 goals on the season. William Nylander, Bunting and Matthews also scored, while defenceman Erik Gustafsson had three assists on the power play. There had to be some breath-holding from the perch of the Leafs management in the press box when goalie Ilya Samsonov appeared to be in some discomfort when he stretched across his crease to make a save during the second period.
