Jake Muzzin will be in demand again a lot the next seven months, so the Maple Leafs took no chances with a few days off when his back became wonky this week.
Muzzin has had a couple of mishaps as a Leaf, including a stint on LTIR midway through last year, a head injury from a collision with Montreal’s Chris Wideman. Muzzin recovered and made it into all seven playoff games versus Tampa Bay, scoring twice.Article content
Seven years after Denis Malgin and Auston Matthews played together for the Zurich Lions, they could be regular teammates in Toronto. In 2020, general manager Kyle Dubas dealt one of his favourite Marlies, belligerent forward Mason Marchment, straight up to Florida for the water bug Malgin. The winger played eight unremarkable games, then chose to return to his birth country , even though Dubas qualified him in the summer of 2021.
“There’s no better way to come into a new team and feel part of things,” Keefe said. “ went away from the league for a while and did extremely well back home. He’s very talented and I thought he looked very good today. He’s had success in the league before . It didn’t go well his first go-round with us and we’ll give him a chance to prove himself.
