Ian Mitchell is expected to miss six weeks with a wrist injury. Colton Dach and Paul Ludwinski are both in concussion protocol.Mitchell, 23, is a 2017 second-round selection who has seen some NHL action over the course of the last two seasons. In 2020-21, he suited up for 39 games and registered seven points in that time frame. Last season, he played eight games for the Blackhawks picking up one assist. He primarily spent the season with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
When Mitchell is healthy, expect him to make the jump to the NHL full time. His strong hockey IQ and offensive tendencies are only going to further accelerate his development. He has all the right tools to become a top-four defender in the Blackhawks system. Additionally, the Blackhawks announced that prospects Colton Dach and Paul Ludwinski have both entered the NHL’s concussion protocol. Dach, who is the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach is expected to make the return to the Western Hockey League to play for the Kelowna Rockets. Last season he registered 50 assists and 79 points in 61 games. Ludwinski will also return to major junior. His rights are held by the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
