The Maple Leafs began training camp on Thursday, with lots of question marks and two players headed to long term injury reserve.
“Significant surgery will require significant rehab,” Treliving forewarned. “For Matt’s privacy, I’m going to leave it at that and I’ll update everybody after Matt is through .
There are three other injuries as camp begins, forward Bobby McMann still recovering from a knee injury last season and listed as a limited participant when workouts start Thursday. Two rookies were hurt at last week’s Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., forwards Braeden Kressler and Ty Voit. Both are not serious Treliving said.Article content
The highlight will be three new aggressive forwards, Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi battling for left wing spots on the top six, enforcer Ryan Reaves on the fourth line. Coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed William Nylander, he of the very public contract squabble on an extension, will start camp at centre instead of right wing, one of many experiments that will include young Matthew Knies getting high profile time on the left side.
