Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said the city government is looking into the possible liability of the garbage collection contractor for the accumulation of waste after the New Year's celebrations. The contract of the involved garbage collector expired on December 31, and it stopped collecting trash from households and establishments in some areas as early as December 30. Mayor Lacuna apologized for the inconvenience and assured residents that the newly-contracted service provider is working hard to catch up and collect the waste.
