Two police officers have died after they were fired upon while attending a property at Wieambilla, about three hours west of Brisbane

.

Police were not immediately in a position to release firm details of what transpired at the scene, but Western Downs Mayor Paul McVeigh said it was a “terribly sad tragedy for the community”.“Obviously, it’s very, very busy out there in the regions, so many police officers are out there trying to understand what’s happened,” he said.

Police declared an emergency declaration about 6.15pm, with several crews at the property and heavily armed specialist personnel called in. At least one helicopter was also dispatched to assist.
