CEBU CITY — Police arrested a 64-year-old man on Wednesday evening after he allegedly shot and killed his live-in partner and her 14-year-old daughter inside their home in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City.
Authorities identified the suspect as Jethro Lapiña, who allegedly shot 38-year-old Jennive Abella and her daughter, Valerie, following an argument.Police apprehended him during a hot pursuit operation led by LtCol. Rolando Barraquio, chief of the Carcar City Police.Investigators reported that Lapiña, who was drunk at the time, argued with Jennive inside their house before pulling out a.45 caliber pistol and shooting her and Valerie.
Responders declared the victims dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.Officers recovered three live bullets and two empty shells from the crime scene.Jennive's sister, Janice, disclosed that Lapiña had been in a relationship with Jennive since May 2024. She described him as violent and jealous, frequently threatening Jennive with a gun.Janice said Jennive recently asked their mother for help after Lapiña turned violent.
