A Melbourne man accused of murdering a woman in a city apartment has been remanded in custody.
Xiaozheng Lin, 22, was assisted by a Mandarin interpreter as he appeared in person at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon.He is accused of stealing the victim’s mobile phone, tablet, a washing basket and $7080 in cash from her Latrobe Street apartment.His lawyer told the court it was the 22-year-old man’s first time in custody and he had a limited understanding of English.
“I also made a notation that you have what is referred to as an impairment to your right leg and that you must be seen by the custody medical staff as soon as possible,” he said. Lin, who did not apply for bail, was remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in May for a committal mention hearing.Police have been given three months to compile a brief of evidence, including DNA and CCTV footage.
