A 34-year-old Sooke resident has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
Police arrested the same man twice within two weeks for drug and weapons offences in the Sooke area, not far from schools.
It started Jan. 14 when Sooke RCMP carried out a search warrant at a fortified cabin in the 6600-block of Sooke Road, where they located about two kilograms of such controlled substances as fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine. They also seized four illegally possessed automatic firearms, several replica firearms and paraphernalia related to drug trafficking.
Ryan Strom, a 34-year-old Sooke resident, was taken into custody and has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.Soon after, Sooke RCMP — assisted by West Shore RCMP — launched another investigation that led to the execution of a search warrant in the 7100-block of West Coast Road on Jan. 26.
Strom was again taken into custody and held to appear before a judge. He is now also charged with an additional count of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon and careless storage of a firearm.“These circumstances, particularly in close proximity to local elementary schools, are of the highest priority to the Sooke RCMP,” said acting detachment commander Sgt. Kevin Shaw.
