According to the “core facts” read into the record by Crown attorney Melanie Perry, Beckett had called 911 to say police needed to come to the home to arrest him because he had killed his girlfriend, Tracy MacKenzie.When officers arrived at the house, they found MacKenzie dead on the kitchen floor with several stab wounds to her neck. There was a bloody knife on a kitchen counter.
“She also suffered multiple, superficial, sharp-force injuries to her wrists and hands that were consistent with defensive wounds,” Perry told the court. Brothers imposed the automatic sentence of life in prison. She ordered Beckett to return to court May 16 for a hearing that will determine how many years – somewhere between 10 and 25 – he must serve before he is eligible to apply for parole.
