The man accused of second-degree murder in the May fatal stabbing of a woman in Vancouver’s Olympic Village is going to plead not guilty and go to trial.Police were called to a disturbance at an Olympic Village apartment building May 1. They found Du suffering from fatal stab wounds. She died at the scene.

Wang was arrested at the scene. Police say the pair knew each other but did not specify the relationship.Earlier June 2021 bail conditions included an order Wang have no contact with Du. Wang's lawyer, Talia Armstrong, told Vancouver provincial court Judge James Bahen Sept. 26 a pre-trial conference was being waived in the case which would proceed to a preliminary hearing. Such hearings are held to determine if enough evidence exists to proceed to trial.

Bahen heard eight witnesses, including police, would be called at that inquiry. A date for that will be set on Oct. 4.A no-contact order for Du’s family remains in place.Wang remains in custody.
