In conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Philippines, the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, in collaboration with One Ayala, Makati City Council, and Artemis Art, organized an art expo from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 2024, at One Ayala in Makati City.
With the theme “Celebrating Friendship Through Art - A Kaleidoscope of 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Malaysia and the Philippines,” the art expo featured the artworks of Malaysian artists Dato Prof Tajuddin Ismail, SC Shekar, Juhari Said, Anniketyni Madian, and Syahbandi Samat, and Filipino artists were Anthony Palomo, Ramon Orlina, Francisco Guerrero, Dennis Bato, and Niakie.
Aside from the artworks, visitors and featured artists participated in the panel discussions and were treated to cultural performances by the Touché Production from Malaysia. On Aug. 31, the panel discussion delved on the “Perspectives on Contemporary Southeast Asian Art” while “Perspectives on Contemporary Photography from Two Generations of Photography” was discussed on Sept. 1.
The opening ceremony was held on Aug. 30. Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin of the Embassy of Malaysia, Makati Mayor Abigail S. Binay-Campos, government officials, the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries graced the opening ceremony. Through the art expo, the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila hopes the visitors were able to appreciate Malaysian and Filipino art and for more collaborations between Malaysia and the Philippines in the field of arts.
