Makabayan House bloc urges continuation of SAP in GCQ areas

Activist lawmakers want the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) extended for areas under the less restrictive general community quarantine (GCQ) condition.

Six members of the Makabayan bloc filed on Friday House Bill HB) No. 6692 or the “Social Amelioration During General Community Quarantine Act of 2020” as more provinces and localities prepare to wriggle out of the strict enhanced community quarantine and lockdown which will end May 15.

The authors of HB 6692 stressed the importance of implementing SAP that would grant families cash aid due to the economic difficulties amid the COVID-19 crisis. In its proposal, Makabayan sought the grant of SAP benefits to those employed in establishments not allowed to operate even under the GCQ setting.
