A petition by a farmers' party-list group against the proclamation of an alleged non-member as its representative was filed a day late before the Supreme Court after the supposed winning candidate took his oath as a member of the House of Representatives on Monday.Robert Gerard Nazal Jr. was sworn in as Magsasaka Party-list representative by Judge Jose Paneda of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 220, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

The party-list group filed its petition asking the Supreme Court to stop the oath taking on Tuesday.Nazal paid a courtesy call on House Speaker Martin Romualdez after he took his oath, according to the statement. The controversy stemmed from the party-list's claim that Nazal was never its nominee even after its first two nominees dropped out from the race. Nazal, however, reiterated that he was the party-list group's third nominee and became its top candidate after the other two withdrew.
