The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Friday warned jeepney drivers over charging passengers a "fixed rate" whether the destination is far or near the terminal.
According to Bernadette Reyes' report on 24 Oras, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III stressed that drivers caught charging a fixed rate could be punished with suspension and cancellation of the franchise.“‘Pag nagtaas ka ng pamasahe that would be a breach of franchise. Hindi mo pwede dagdagan ang pamasahe dahil may barker at terminal fee na binabayaran. That should form part of the operations,” Guadiz said.
Commuter and student Nads Caliao, who rides the jeepney for her daily transportation, said she was supposed to be paying P18.“Dapat P18 o twenty above lang po talaga. Wala pong ibang malapit na sakayan po kaya no choice po talaga kami,” she said.“Sa umaga po minimum dito trenta, pag ganitong tanghali na forty na po. Kasi sa tagal po namin pag hihintay ng pila,” a jeepney driver said. The LTFRB noted that drivers could file a petition to implement higher fares.
“Pwede po sila magfile ng petition sa LTFRB for operational cost tumataas, presyo ng gasolina tsaka inflation. Kung justified ibibigay po namin kung karampatang increase,” Guadiz noted.
