The LTFRB warns of possible sanctions as at least a thousand jeepney drivers are seen to join the three-day strike beginning June 24, the day of President Bongbong Marcos' second SONA.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Monday warned of possible sanctions as at least a thousand jeepney drivers are seen to join the three-day strike beginning June 24.The SourceManibela announced last week it will be staging a strike starting June 24, which will be coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s second State of the Nation Address.
Still, the agency is seeing only around 1,000 to 2,000 participants in the strike, which was based on the last protest the group conducted in March. A small number of drivers may also join in Region 4, he added. The LTFRB official urged those planning to join to think twice or else their franchise may be revoked or suspended following a due process to be conducted.
Early this year, Manibela along with PISTON held a strike to also protest the PUV modernization program. This ended following a dialogue with Marcos. Guadiz said the same areas affected during the last strike will be hit by this scheduled “tigil pasada.” This includes 2-3 significant routes in Quezon City, like the Balintawak route, he noted.“I’m calling Manibela to come back to the negotiating table,” he told the group. “There is nothing that we cannot agree on if we are on the negotiating table.”
