The provincial department has pledged to ensure that every long-term care facility maintain staff levels of combined registered nurses , licenced practical nurses and continuing care assistants sufficient to satisfy at least 4.1 hours of care per resident. New national standards for long-term care homes in Canada that were published two weeks ago also recommended the 4.1 hours standard.

McFadgen said CUPE carried out a social experience at a nursing home before the onset of COVID and members came in to volunteer to create the 4.1 hours of care per day.
