The fastest-growing job titles over the past five years are in male dominated sectors, new data from LinkedIn shows.
Men dominate the fastest-growing jobs in Australia, which are largely made up of specialised technology roles, followed by sales and professional services, an analysis of LinkedIn data shows.
Of the 12 roles on the list within the tech sector, all were dominated by men, including technical program manager which is 70 per cent male. Men make up 88 per cent of all site reliability engineers and 85 per cent of all platform engineers, which is the fifth-fastest growing job. Ms Hutson left academia to become a machine learning engineer in 2019 and is now a machine learning team leader at software engineering company Max Kelson, working on projects such as usingAlthough Ms Hutson said she had a typical pathway to becoming an ML engineer – including learning to code in high school, studying an undergraduate degree in IT and fine arts and picking up an internship at the CSIRO – her team had come from careers such as medicine and civil engineering.
The current gender distribution was calculated by measuring the number of members by identified gender currently in each job as a percentage of the total members with known gender per job.
