Firebrand Senator Lidia Thorpe was asking a question to the government about a gas project in the Northern Territory, when she seemingly mispronounced a word.

“Now, I will be able to speak freely, on all issues, from a sovereign perspective, without being constrained by portfolios and agreed party positions.”

The 49-year-old has attracted strong criticism in recent months over a series of stunts and outbursts both within and out of Parliament House. She took to social media the next day to defend her actions, which was widely condemned across the political spectrum. Last year the controversial figure was forced to undertake her parliamentary oath for a second time after referring to the Queen as a"coloniser".
