Reelectionist Leyte fourth district Rep. Richard Gomez has vowed to continue implementing programs that will improve the lives of his constituents. The actor-turned-politician pledged to strengthen initiatives on safety, healthcare, education, and economic development in his district.
Gomez, who was first elected mayor of Ormoc City in 2016, implemented measures that resulted in the capital city of Leyte registering significant achievements that enabled it to become the safest city in the Philippines and the wealthiest in the Eastern Visayas region. Ormoc was declared the safest in the country within two years and retained that status in 2018 and 2019. It became the wealthiest city in Eastern Visayas with assets amounting to P7.47 billion in 2023, a 9.37 percent increase from the previous year.
Gomez was elected congressman in 2022 and has filed 70 bills – 38 with national significance and 32 with local concerns – among them the creation of disaster relief and emergency centers in Ormoc and nearby municipalities and a national sports development program designed to uplift the country's sporting talent.
