AS the Philippines sets its sights on becoming a First World economy by 2050 and well into 2100, smart architecture and urban design are not optional — they are essential.
With 68 percent of the world's population projected to live in urban areas by 2050, according to the UN, we must build cities that are liveable, walkable, bikeable, smart, resilient and inclusive. Our challenge is clear: to design and plan for a future that embraces vertical urbanism, integrated land use, efficient infrastructure, and smart mobility systems — while respecting the environment and our unique Filipino heritage.
Savill's Resilient Cities Index is measured by the support and well-being of its residents and workers coming from great economic, social, environmental and technological change. Using the Resilient Cities Index, Savills has named New York as the most resilient city in the world, followed by Tokyo, London, Seoul, Los Angeles, Singapore, Paris, San Francisco, Boston and Toronto. A greater majority of the top 10 are US cities, which used to have spots until the 12th compared to 2021.
