BACOLOD CITY — A 10-year-old boy from Cadiz City proved his physical disability is no hindrance at all.
A victim of a rare phocomelia disease, Zach Lucas Obsioma rose to the challenge as he clinched two gold medals and a silver in swimming boys at the Para Games of the just concluded Palaro Pambansa in Cebu City.Coached by Max Fermales and Lyn Rabuya, Obsioma emerged as the fastest in boys' 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle, as he became an instant toast in the Palaro . He also made a good showing in the breast stroke but settled for a silver finish.
He trained at Laura's Beach Resort in Cadiz and eventually competed in the Provincial Meet at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod in March last year.There, he won and earned a shot at the Palarong Pambansa 2023 in Marikina City, where he had also won three gold medals.In May this year, he became a swimming sensation at the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet held at the St. John's Institute – Ayala Campus in Talisay City.
