LeBron James and his family are staying in a hotel after evacuating their home due to the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area. James discusses the impact of the fires on himself and his community, including the loss of Lakers coach JJ Redick's home.
LeBron James and his family are still residing in a hotel after evacuating their home due to the wildfires that have devastated the Los Angeles area for the past week. The wildfires forced the evacuation of residents from the affluent Brentwood community, where James resides. The Lakers star spoke to reporters following the team's victory against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, expressing hope for a swift return home.
The fires have also impacted members of the Lakers organization, with coach JJ Redick and his family losing their rental home in the Pacific Palisades area. James acknowledged the devastating impact on his community, stating, 'Our friends that lost their homes, just being there for them.' He added, 'It's very challenging, especially when you got kids and you lose your home and all their belongings... it's a lot to try to wrap your head around it. I'm very happy that my family is safe.' Two Lakers home games were postponed last week due to the fires, and James admitted the situation had taken a toll on him. The 40-year-old athlete shared, 'Personally, I've been off. Personally, my family, we've been evacuated since (last) Thursday night, so I've been in a hotel since pretty much when we got back from Dallas. So, just figuring it out. But staying strong for one another. Obviously, that's most important.' James confirmed that his home remains safe. The Lakers, along with other pro sports teams in Los Angeles and Orange counties, have pledged $8 million to support wildfire relief efforts. Tragically, at least 25 people have lost their lives in the fires, which have burned over 60 square miles and destroyed over 12,000 structures, according to CBS News reports on Thursday.
