The Albanese government is set to introduce new laws to facilitate the breakup of the CFMEU, as ACTU secretary Sally McManus joins condemnation of John Setka.

The Albanese government is set to introduce new laws to help break up the CFMEU , as the ACTU national secretary Sally McManus breaks her silence on the militant union's controversial Victorian state secretary.

“We will provide the opportunity for members of the manufacturing division to vote on their future, because the status-quo is dysfunctional and cannot continue,” Mr Burke told The Australian. ACTU national secretary Sally McManus supported giving members the choice to breakaway, stating it was the only way the issue could be resolved.

Mr O’Connor said Mr Setka had threatened to withhold cooperation with the AFL on league-related projects unless it sacked head of umpiring Stephen McBurney because he “holds a grudge” against the official which dates back to Mr McBurney’s time as head of the Australian Building and Construction Commission.
