SENATOR Grace Poe is seeking the conduct of a probe into the continued proliferation of text scams, as well as the reported use of subscriber identity modules in the operations of illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators , amid the implementation of the SIM Registration Act.
"The registration of SIM should help unmask fraudsters and deny them of sanctuary to hide. But, are these being achieved?" Poe, chairperson of the Senate committee on public services and sponsor of the SIM Registration Law, said. Poe cited the seizure of over 80,000 SIM cards during a raid at a Pogo hub in Las Piñas City, as well as the reported recovery of 28,000 registered SIM cards during another Pogo raid in Pasay City recently.
Poe also reminded the National Telecommunications Commission, Department of Information and Communications Technology and other relevant agencies to submit to Congress a report and update on the law's implementation.
