THE whirling mass of delusions, fantasies, hang-ups, fears and lies now swirling around the figure of Vice President Sara Duterte and the nation's politics, could settle down and allow for resolution, if our politicians, administration and opposition alike could desist from being misled by misguided beliefs and notions, and spend more time to understand clearly law and reality in our constitutional system.
The Constitution does not provide for the automatic succession to the presidency of the vice president in case of a presidential vacancy.Further, according to the author Jose Nolledo, who was himself a member of the 1986 Constitutional Commission , 'Attempts in the Constitutional Commission to make the vice president automatically the Senate president were rejected by the commission.
