Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Sunday vowed to thoroughly scrutinize how the Department of Health and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation would handle the billions worth of fund appropriated for the Universal Health Care program.Lacson said the ‘ghost dialysis’ controversy involving the WellMed Dialysis Center raises concern as to how these agencies would be able to keep the implementation of the UHC program free from anomalies.
“Ngayon, dahil may ganitong anomalya, pagkatiwalaan ba natin ang PhilHealth mag-handle ng ganitong kalaking budget? Katunayan PhilHealth ang isa sa nagbabalangkas ng IRR dito, sa UHC for UHC),” he pointed out, noting that the funds for UHC is on top of the regular budget of the DOH and PhilHealth, respectively.
“Doon kami magtutuos pagdating ng budget deliberation. Kung napapansin mo, concentrate ako dati sa pag-interpellate sa DPWH budget. Yan ang maraming nasasayang na pera. budget. We lose a lot of money there),” he said. Lacson said anomalies involving PhilHealth insurance claims had long been hounding hospitals especially in far-flung provinces where claimants are literally “ghost” patients.
