MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Panfilo Lacson said he would move to slash the 2026 flood control fund for Metro Manila if business tycoon Ramon Ang pushes through with his offer to help clean up rivers and other waterways for free.
The senator said he would propose to reduce the flood management budget lodged with the Department of Public Works and Highways and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority .Lacson on Sunday appealed to the private sector to help address the flooding problem, even as he continues his own probe into failed and 'ghost' flood control projects that have cost taxpayers more than P2 trillion in the last 15 years.He said the offer of San Miguel Corp.
'Assuming RSA is given the authority and actually performs what he offered to do before our plenary debates on the 2026 budget bill, I will move to reduce the DPWH and MMDA appropriations for the flood management program in the NCR during the period of individual amendments,' he said.Meanwhile, Lacson said he is continuing his verification of information into failed and 'ghost' flood control projects.
