The Opposition has warned that changes to the superannuation scheme would “just be the beginning”, as Labor is accused of breaking another election promise.
Prior to the May 2022 Federal Election Labor ruled out making changes to Australia’s $3 trillion retirement scheme but a change in rhetoric this past week has raised concerns among the Coalition.
While the Treasurer’s speech to a group of fund managers in Sydney was aimed at spruiking plans to legislate an “objective” to super, he has fanned fears of changes to super balance caps, tax concessions and balance transfers. “And now he wants to change the rules. This is Australians’ money, that should be the starting point.
During the interview he echoed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, stressing no major changes will be made.
