Police officers in Negros Occidental brought Christmas joy to families displaced by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption, organizing a special celebration at the municipal evacuation center.

Dec 25, 2024 12:28 PM The La Castellana Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental celebrated Christmas with Kanlaon Volcano evacuees at the municipal evacuation center. Lawmen dressed as Santa Claus distributed diapers and clean clothes to children and conducted games and activities. Police Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, municipal police chief, said the event provided relief to families displaced by the eruption.

Nigos said the event served as a reminder that even in difficult times, moments of happiness can prevail. He added that this initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the police to support and serve the community, particularly during disasters. La Castellana is one of the municipalities impacted by the recent eruption of Kanlaon. Thousands of residents from the four to six kilometer danger zone were forced to evacuate following the two eruptions on June 3 and Dec. 9
