Kontra Daya asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to investigate Commissioner Rowena Guanzon’s allegation of influence-peddling in relation to the disqualification cases of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. READ:
Kontra Daya on Friday, Jan. 28, asked the Commission on Elections to investigate Commissioner Rowena Guanzon’s allegation of influence-peddling in relation to the disqualification cases of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.In a statement, the poll watchdog group also called on the Comelec First Division to release the decision on the cases before Guanzon’s retirement next month.
“The First Division should release its decision before Guanzon’s term expires on Feb. 2,” Kontra Daya said. “Failure to investigate and to imnediately release the decision would put the Comelec’s credibility into further question. How can we expect clean and honest elections in a situation like this?” added the group.
Guanzon is part of the First Division handling the three disqualification cases against Marcos Jr. filed by Akbayan, Abubakar Mangelen and Bonifacio Ilagan et al. The decision was supposed to be released on Jan. 17 but was delayed after a staff of a commissioner was hit by COVID.“My vote is to DQ Marcos Jr. because I really believe there is moral turpitude based on evidence, on the law,” she said.“To knock out my vote, they think they can invalidate it by releasing the resolution of the ponencia after I retire, which cannot happen because I already submitted my separate opinion… That should already be on the record that I voted already,” said Guanzon.
