Koe drew to the button in 10th end to score two and pull out the victory.
“It was really millimetres away on either side,” Bottcher said. “Unfortunately, some shots in our game come down to that. It is what it is, I could throw that shot again and make it the next time.”
Koe, meanwhile, and his team consisting of Tyler Tardi, Brad Thiessen and Karrick Martin, also out of the Glencoe Club, lost their opening game to Daylan Vavrek and had to qualify for the playoffs out of the B-event. With the win, Koe books a spot in the 2023 Tim Hortons Brier as the Alberta champion. Bottcher will be going as well, earning the first wildcard berth. It’s expected that Karsten Sturmay, who was eliminated by Sluchinski in the Page playoff, will also be attending as a wild card.
“When you play them, you know how hard it is to win, so you have to play well or you have no chance,” Koe said. “Our guys played great all week, especially today. Tyler, it was his first purple heart , so I’m happy for him and it’s the first year for our team, so what can you say. It feels great.” The end was highlighted by a number of outstanding shots from both sides, the best being a draw to the button from Koe coming around the outside of a guard at the top of the house.Article content
