KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Information Department is using social media extensively to give updates on the latest weather conditions including the current hot spell, said its director Mohd Nur Aswadi Md Nor.

He said his team updated weather information from the Kelantan Health Department either through Facebook or WhatsApp groups as well as on various other platforms.

"We obtain information from the department because we do not have the authority from the health aspect, but instead we extend this information as we are confident that when these measures are issued by the department, the matter has been confirmed as being safe to practise. "We are confident in the role of these social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp groups as they are more efficient, fast in disseminating information and have relatively widespread methods at the moment," he told Bernama during a media tour programme at Imedikel TV in Telipot here on Wednesday .

Mohd Nur Aswadi said as a result of using social media, his team has received good feedback from social media users because it is easy to understand. "The public needs to be aware and take precautions such as consuming more water and reducing activities under the sun," he added. - Bernama
