KOTA KINABALU: Prisons staff will not be left out from a RM200mil additional allocation approved by the government to repair dilapidated living quarters and facilities, says Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ruji Ubi.
Responding to claims by prisons staff over the dire conditions of their living quarters in Taman Matambai in Kepayan here, Ruji said the Prisons Department will receive some RM40mil from the RM200mil allocation.
“I don’t have the exact details with me now but the department will get about RM40mil for repair works on the living quarters for their staff.Ruji was speaking after accepting a mock key for the handover of the Inanam Police Force Housing project by the developer in Inanam near here.Ruji later handed over the same to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
They also claimed there have been instances of thefts and break-ins due to the entry of non-residents.Meanwhile, Ruji said the RM200mil will be divided among four agencies under the ministry, namely the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Immigration Department, besides the Prisons Department.
“The allocation will be divided accordingly, some RM30mil to the police force in Peninsular Malaysia, RM30mil to Sarawak and about RM32mil to Sabah, to repair dilapidated quarters.
