GEORGE TOWN: An operation to curb and combat various cross-border crimes in the country’s waters has been reactivated for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency deputy director-general Rear Admiral Datuk Saiful Lizan Ibrahim said the Op Khas Pagar Laut series 1/2023 would begin today until April 30.
“Criminals will probably think that law enforcement during the festive season will be somewhat lax as most security personnel will be on leave and celebrating the festival. But they will be wrong,” he said after launching the operation yesterday. Saiful Lizan said an 800-men MMEA force, would further tighten controls at hotspots, especially at the borders of Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
