A Toronto judge has hit the pause button on the removal of centuries-old trees at Osgoode Hall by granting an interim injunction sought by one of the owners of the Queen Street West heritage site.

Officials with Law Society of Ontario confirmed Sunday that Superior Court Justice William Chalmers granted the interim injunction “restraining Metrolinx from cutting down any trees at the Osgoode site.”

The provincial transit agency reiterated that it has done proper due diligence, including 17 meetings with the LSO “prior to the start of work to avoid unnecessary delays that will cause significant financial consequences to taxpayers and commuters.” “It allows time for all the information to come before the courts,” said Liz Driver, BOLD’s interim chair, on Sunday.

“Despite an injunction being filed, Metrolinx quickly ramped up its plan to remove the trees,” BOLD said in a statement on Saturday. Fenrick said the LSO intends to present the courts with an architect’s report detailing the potential damage posed to the heritage value of the site at Queen Street West and University Avenue.
