Defence Minister Richard Marles has met his counterpart Philippines’ Secretary of National Defence Carlito Galvez Jr. to discuss the need to fend off China’s influence in the South China Sea.

Mr Marles has landed in Manila where the two discussed the possibility of conducting joint patrols in the region.

China’s aggressive activities in the South China Sea have caused tensions with the Philippines over disputed maritime claims in the region.
