A delegation of engineers from Japan -based Otake Corp. recently visited the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) headquarters in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, to evaluate the country's rice milling capabilities and investigate potential advancements in local brown rice production. Raymund Joseph Macaranas, chief of PHilMech's Agricultural Mechanization Division, led the discussions, emphasizing the agency's advanced rice milling technologies and ongoing projects.

The Japanese visitors expressed keen interest in PHilMech's impeller hulling machine for brown rice and the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund program as they delved into the state of the Philippine rice industry and potential areas for improvement.The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) has spearheaded the development of innovative rice milling technologies that have recently garnered attention from international experts. During their tour of PHilMech's Agricultural Machinery Design and Prototyping Center, the Japanese engineers were particularly impressed by the agency's advanced machines, especially the brown rice micro-mill. They engaged in a comprehensive exploration of various technological innovations and recognized the significant potential for enhancing rice milling processes.Makoto Hoki, a retired professor from Miyazaki University who was part of the delegation from Otake, underscored the critical role of technology in achieving high-quality rice production. 'Technology is instrumental in ensuring the production of superior quality rice,' he stated. 'It is truly commendable to witness the innovations being developed here, which can deliver substantial benefits to both farmers and consumers.'
