THE James Dyson Award has announced its 20 best inventions by young student engineers and designers.
This year's shortlist includes a portable, battery-operated scalp-cooling device for chemotherapy patients, and soundproofing panels made of shredded household textile waste.A panel of 14 Dyson engineers, with expertise in design, electronics and sustainability, have carefully selected the 20 global finalists for the Award .On November 13, someone from this shortlist will be crowned the global winners by Sir James Dyson and win P2.1 million in prize money to accelerate their invention.
Another notable invention is Ramun, short for Resistivity Acquisition and Monitoring of the Underground, which was announced as the Philippine national winner. While it may not have secured a top 20 spot, its potential impact on underground monitoring is undeniable.The 14 Dyson engineers who selected the Award's Global Top 20 shortlist work across Dyson research and development hubs in the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
