The Read Your Way Out (RYWO) Project, a collaboration between the UNODC, the National Library of the Philippines, and the BJMP, has brought library services to jails across the Philippines, including ICJMD. Detainees can read books and educational materials, earning time allowances for early release. The project has established 13 new libraries and Reading Corners in dormitories, increasing access to books and promoting rehabilitation.
Detainees or persons deprived of liberty at ICJMD now have a unique opportunity to enhance their personal development and reduce their sentences through reading.
The RYWO Project has established 13 new libraries in jails across the Philippines, including the ICJMD. This initiative aims to offer detainees an opportunity to engage in educational pursuits by participating in reading activities. Each book they read brings them closer to early release, providing a tangible incentive for self-improvement and reducing their sentences.
These Reading Corners address the limited space of the jail library and ensure that more PDL can benefit from the program.
