THOUSANDS of departing passengers were stranded until early Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) after two local airlines and six other foreign airlines were affected by the global computer system ‘s IT “disruption” that led to the cancellations of flights and affected banks, telecommunications and payments systems.

The Manila International airport authority said the global outage of IT systems affected eight airlines in all at Terminal 3 and one airline at Terminal 2. Aside from Cebu Pacific Air and AirAsia Philippines, six foreign airlines — Etihad Airlines, Jejuair, Jetstar Asia, Jestar Japan, Scoot and Hong Kong Express — were also affected by the IT, outage leaving passengers stranded.
To reduce congestion, affected passengers were also advised not to proceed to the airport until after getting their airline’s guidance.
