Police are launching a new social media campaign featuring detailed stories from emergency services workers in the hope that it will improve driver behaviour after a horrific start to the year on South Australia's roads.

abc.net.au/news/sa-police-launch-new-social-media-campaign/102142720South Australia Police have fast-tracked a new campaign in a desperate bid to improve driver behaviour as the state's road toll continues to rise in what has been a horrific start to 2023.So far, 37 people have been killed in crashes on South Australian roads this year, compared to 16 by the same time last year

Police attending a fatal crash yesterday charged two people in separate incidents with drink driving and speeding within kilometres of the accident siteSince the start of the year, 37 people have died on South Australian roads, compared to 71 for the entire of last year. Assistant Police Commissioner Ian Parrott said a road safety campaign — which had been scheduled to roll out later this month — will be launched on Saturday, featuring detailed stories from first responders who have attended fatal road crashes.

"We're not even a quarter of the way through 2023, and we are over half way towards last year's number of lives lost," he said."That's 37 teams of police officers who have been out to secure the scene, to investigate the circumstances of the crash and, worst of all, to go and knock on the door of the loved ones of someone who has just died.

"If you're not going to consider yourself, at least have some consideration for the broader impacts that your poor choices on our roads have, particularly when it comes to our emergency service responders."
