In light of the festivities for the Black Nazarene, Manila Mayor IskoMoreno said the local government unit will implement a liquor ban from January 8 to January 10, 2022.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Moreno said he already signed an executive order that prohibits the sale of alcoholic drinks from 6 p.m. of January 8 until 6 a.m. of January 10.
“I just signed an executive order prohibiting the sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverage beverages,” he said. “I am directing to strictly implement Ordinance 5555 sa panahon ng kapistahan ng Nazareno ,” he added. Moreno thanked the Quiapo Church for granting the request of the government to cancel the traditional procession of the image of the Black Nazarene or “Traslacion.”
According to him, the church also agreed to conduct only online Masses for the occasion due to the threat of the COVID-19m pandemic.following the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
