In a bid to minimize the use of prohibited and hazardous firecrackers during New Year's Eve celebrations, the Isabela police destroyed over 2,600 seized and surrendered illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials.
CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — The Isabela police led the destruction of more than 2,600 seized and surrendered illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials at the provincial police quadrangle on Dec. 30, a day before the New Year 's eve revelry.Col. Allen Lee Bauding, Isabela police director, said the destruction of firecrackers is aimed to lessen usage of prohibited and hazardous firecrackers during the revelry.
Among those destroyed include piccolo, five star, pop-pop, judas belt, high-end pyrotechnics and boga or improvised cannons which are all banned from the market.The prohibited firecrackers were drenched with minimal water as heavy rains continue due to shear line with the help of the Bureau of Fire Protection in the province and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office representatives.'This is a call for public safety as we aim to alleviate cases during New Year celebration,' Bauding said.The Center for Health Development in Cagayan Valley reported on Sunday that the number of firecracker victims rose by 236 percent or 37 cases from Dec. 21 to 29, compared 16 cases in the same period last year
