FI HALAT HADAAD. A handout picture provided by the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday shows relatives mourning over the coffins of seven Revolutionary Guard Corps members killed in a strike on the country’s consular annex in Damascus, which Tehran blamed on Israel, ahead of their funeral procession. The seven guards, including two generals, were killed in the air strike on April 1, which leveled the Iranian embassy’s consular annex.
Friday’s ceremony coincides with the annual Quds Day commemorations, when Iran and its allies stage marches in support of the Palestinians. Mourners held Iranian and Palestinian flags, as well as those from the Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah group. State television broadcast footage of similar gatherings on Friday in other Iranian cities including Mashhad, Qom, Sanandaj and Shahrekord.
