Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre proposed an ordinance requiring city government employees to wear Indigenous Peoples clothing every first Monday of the month.
“They failed to realize that the Bagobo traditional attire worn by Vice President Inday Sara, which she has borrowed from deputy mayor of the Tagabawa tribe in Davao City Bae Sheirelle Anino, is not a cosplay, but a representation of one of the biggest Indigenous tribes in Davao City. She flaunted the Bagobo Tagabawa traditional attire because she wants to show her care and appreciation to our Indigenous People,” Alejandre said.
Alejandre mentioned that when he was appointed by then President Rodrigo Duterte as the then Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture and Arts , he realized that the country’s flourishing culture and tradition receive less acknowledgment and appreciation.
