The International Olympic Committee ( IOC ) has announced that boxing legend Manny Pacquiao will not be allowed to compete at the Paris Games due to age restrictions. Pacquiao, who retired in 2021, had expressed his desire to participate in the Olympic tournament at the age of 45. However, the IOC has upheld the age limit of 40 for boxers. The decision comes after the IOC took over the governance of Olympic boxing from the International Boxing Association.
The age limit was raised from 34 to 40 in 2013, which would have allowed Pacquiao to compete in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, but he chose not to as he was elected as a senator in his home country. It is uncertain whether Pacquiao would have attempted to qualify for the Paris Olympics through the upcoming qualification tournaments in Italy and Thailand
